The Hull Identification Selection (HIN) is usually a 12- or fourteen-character serial amount that uniquely identifies a ship. The HIN is analogous to some VIN on a vehicle.
The 1st 3 digits would be the Producer’s Identification Code (ex. Boat manufacturer such as Sea Ray, Meridian, etcetera.). The four digits following that are definitely the maker’s serial range for that boat. The 3rd and 4th digits through the finish will be the day of manufacture. The letter to the date in the manufacture corresponds into the thirty day period in the calendar year, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so on. The final two digits of the HIN variety represent the product year.
All boats made or imported on or immediately after November 1, 1972, must bear a HIN, which HIN should be recognized during boat registration. Vessels manufactured or imported prior to 1972 are EXEMPT simply because they normally don't have a HIN.
The HIN is located over a steel or plastic plate, commonly to the transom with the boat, ordinarily on the right starboard (proper) facet with the transom in two inches of the top of transom, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is least expensive.
On vessels without transoms, or impractical to use transoms, the HIN is generally affixed into the starboard (proper) outboard facet of hull, aft, inside of a single foot of the stern and in just two inches of the boat model very best of your hull aspect, gunwale or hull/deck joint, whichever is cheapest.
